tori3.jpgtori2.jpgDirections: tori4.jpgUse the tori5.jpgfollowing tori6.jpgquestions and

resources to learn more about your individual. Take careful notes; you may not simply cut and paste from the Internet into your notes. Keep careful track of your sources for your Works Cited. Based on your research, you will create a profile of your individual to share with the class. This profile should provide basic background information on your individual and provide an overview of his/her stance on our main questions: where is the U.S. headed from here? what are the primary issues/concerns facing our nation? how would deal with these issues and concerns?

Questions to consider as you do your research;
  • How did the Civil Rights Movement change between 1965 and 1968? What new challenges presented themselves after the passage of the voting rights act? Make sure you take a look at the issue of rioting in northern cities that occurred during the summers of 1965, 1966, and 1967.
  • Why was SNCC turning away from non-violence in 1965 and 1966?
  • What did "Black Power" mean to its adherents? How did other groups view this change in SNCC?
  • How was Carmichael defining equality by 1968? How did his understanding of these term compare to Martin Luther King's understanding of this term?
